The Jira Club occupied the building in Stones End, formerly the Empire Picture House. In the early 60’s, it was a popular venue for dancing during the “Rock & Roll” era and then the “Pop Music” of the Beatles and many other groups. Live music at such venues was common throughout the North East before the Workmen’s Clubs got into the act.
