The British and our Allies were still fighting the Japanese in Burma. The Americans were in a bloody conflict in the Pacific. There were thousands of men held as POWs in cruel conditions by the Japanese. The world entered the nuclear age when atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, 6 and 9 August. Japan surrendered 15 August 1945 (VJ Day) although the Second World War did not officially end until 2 September 1945 as Russia battled on to gain more territory.

Evenwood and Ramshaw had men fighting in Burma, often referred to as “the Forgotten War”.
We will not forget.
More details of our servicemen will follow.
