The “big stories” are those that hit the headlines. The obvious ones are the war stories, the declaration of war in 1914 and 1939 and the cessation of hostilities in 1918 and 1945 but also dramatic events such as the murder of 1880, the shooting in Railey Fell Institute, the closures of Randolph Colliery and Coke Works.
