The original school was located at the southern end of Ramshaw Row. In 1894, it was described as follows:
“At Ramshaw is the colliery school for 150, built in 1865, by Messrs. Stobart & Co.”
It would have closed as a school when the new Ramshaw School built by the County Council on Oaks Bank was opened in 1910.
It is understood that the building reverted to being the Miners’ Institute for those men of Ramshaw who worked at Railey Fell/West Tees Colliery for Messrs. Stobart & Co.
