RONNIE PEDDELTY: 100 NOT OUT: BIRTHDAY CARD FROM THE KING & QUEEN

Born in 1924, when Ronnie left school his first job was as a delivery boy for Sam Vasey’s shop at The Centre, Evenwood.

Ronnie’s next employment was as a blacksmith.  When war broke out in 1939, he was employed at Randolph Colliery as a farrier.  At the time this was “a reserved occupation.”

On the 10th November 1945, he married Elizabeth Irene Chapman at Cockfield.

They went on to have a family of Patricia, Joan, John, Brian & Michael and now has several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

When the pit closed, he moved to the Randolph coke ovens then onto Catterick at the Army (REME) Barracks. One of Ronnie’s claims to fame is that he made some of the equipment for the White Helmet display team.

Ronnie is well known in the village for his love of pigeons and his prowess at cricket playing for the village team for a number of years.
