A Brief Summary
The Middle Ages, otherwise known as Medieval times, spanned over 1000 years from the end of the Roman Empire until the mid-15th Century. In England, the period between the Romans and the Normans, that is 410 to 1066 was significant because of the invading peoples, notably the Angles, the Saxons and the Vikings. In England, conversion of pagan kings to Christianity took place during the first 200 years of this era. The Normans invaded in 1066 and they, in the guise of the House of Plantagenet, ruled for the next 300 years or so, ending with Richard III in 1485. Thereafter, the Tudor dynasty ruled England followed by the Stuarts from 1603 to 1707, interrupted by the English Civil War and the Commonwealth, 1649-1660.
