Charles Arthur Pattison (1879-1955) was born at Witton-le-Wear and served his apprenticeship with the North Bitchburn Coal Company Ltd. He was appointed manager at Howden Colliery then between 1911 – 1925, he was manager of Randolph Colliery, Evenwood. He followed Thomas Heslop and was succeeded by T.H. Blaiklock. He died in 1955, aged 76. He then lived at Abbey Road, Darlington and left £679,000 (in today’s money) to his widow Annie and sons.

1955, October 9, Charles Pattison died aged 76. He then lived at Abbey Road, Darlington and left £25,877 10 shillings 8d to his widow Annie and sons Alan, also a mining engineer, and Geoffrey, a medical practitioner.
